Dzung Nguyen Biography
Born in Saigon, South Vietnam Dzung arrived in the US in 1975 empty handed. He started a series of manual labor jobs while trying to learn a new language and get assimilated to a new culture. He attended the University of Minnesota and graduated in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
Dzung started a career in sales with IBM in 1981 and was soon recognized as the top salesperson in the company. Dzung was named Marketing Manager for IBM Rocky Mountain Region in Denver in 1988.
In 1991, Dzung joined Lexmark International as Area Manager for the Western Area. He was responsible for Sales and Operations in eleven western states. Lexmark is a spin-off of IBM and went public in 1995 (LXK).
In September 1996, Dzung joined GM Minority Dealer Development and attended the NADA Dealer Academy in McClean, VA. He graduated from the academy in August, 1997. While attending the Academy, he worked and gained experience in many different departments at Mike Shaw Buick, Chevrolet & Saab in Denver Colorado, Freeway Chevrolet in St Joseph Missouri, and John Elway AutoNation Buick Pontiac GMC in Colorado.
In December 1999, Dzung acquired Goshen Buick-GMC in Goshen, Indiana.
His strategy at the start was as follows:
- Take care of the employees to create a stable environment
- Make customer service the foundation of the business
- Community involvement as the keystone of the business as we move forward
Goshen Buick-GMC ranked number ONE in Purchase Satisfaction Index for 2000.
Goshen Buick-GMC received the prestigious Mark of Excellence award for Buick and GMC in 2000 and again in 2004. The readers of the Goshen News named Showalter Buick-GMC the Best Auto Sales in Goshen.
Dzung is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Goshen. He is on the board of directors for the Boys & Girls Club of Goshen.
He has served on the Board of Directors for the Goshen Chamber of Commerce and in 2007, Dzung was elected Chairman of the Goshen Chamber of Commerce.
In August of 2004, Insight Magazine listed Goshen GMC as having the 8th highest Customer Satisfaction for GMC dealers nationwide.
In January, 2002, Dzung was elected to the Board of Directors for the General Motors Minority Dealers Association (GMMDA). He was re-elected to the Board of GMMDA in 2005. Dzung has also served as Secretary for GMMDA.
In September of 2005, Dzung is designated to the board of NAMAD, and again in 2007.
In August of 2006, Dzung is awarded the Hyundai Franchise for Goshen Indiana. It is the only import franchise in Goshen in the last 20 years. He credited Customer Satisfaction as one of the reasons for getting the franchise from Hyundai. The new franchise opened on December 15, 2006.
Goshen Hyundai has consistently ranked #1 in Customer Satisfaction in the nation.
In December of 2006, Goshen Buick GMC Hyundai was awarded the prestigious Maple Leaf Award by the Chamber of Commerce of Goshen. This award is given to companies for their exceptional service to the community.
In Sept. 2009, Dzung was elected to the board of directors of Elkhart County Community Foundation (ECCF).
Dzung and his wife Francoise, live in Goshen with their two children, a son 18 and a daughter 16. They are members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
